Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM)

Picture
A Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) certification demonstrates that you have met NCMA's highest standards for education, training, and experience, and have demonstrated your knowledge of the contract management competencies in the Contract Management Body of Knowledge. It is NCMA's senior and most prestigious certification.

Am I eligible?
To be eligible to register for the CPCM exam, a potential candidate must have:
  • A degree from a regionally or Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) accredited institution at the bachelor's level.
  • Degrees from outside the U.S. must be evaluated by an independent third party such as World Education Services.
  • Five years of work experience in the contract management field.
  • 120 hours of continuing professional education; see our Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Guide for details.
What can I expect to see on the exam?
All exams are competency‐based and objective‐type, multiple choice. The time limit is four hours.  The 180 question CPCM exam covers the following contract management competencies:
  • Pre-Award
  • Acquisition Planning/Strategy
  • Post-Award
  • Specialized Knowledge Areas
  • Business
All questions are objective-type, however, some will be based on scenarios. The CPCM certification is most appropriate for contracting professionals who have mastered the majority of the contract management competencies in the Contract Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK), have extensive business education and training, and have a minimum of 5 years of experience.

When can I take the exam?
Individuals who are interested in taking the exam must submit an application to NCMA. Once the application has been processed, reviewed, and approved, you will be able to take the exam.

Where do I take the exam?
The CPCM exam is offered at various times each week through Kryterion Learning Centers. There are over 600 national and international testing centers available. NCMA also offers exams at educational conferences.  Other options may be available.  For additional details, please check the NCMA HQ site.

Passing the Exam:
To earn the CPCM, a candidate must take and pass the CPCM exam. A passing score is a minimum of 70% correct answers.
